News Hitachi Addresses Cost-Concious HDTV Broadcast And Production Markets With Its New SK-31B (20/9/2004) Industry-first low-cost HD camera designed for robotic studio and field production features native 1080i and 720p HD-SDI outputs Hitachi wants to address cost-conscious high-definition television at the IBC with the introduction of a low-cost, multi-format HDTV camera for broadcast, production and imaging professionals. Part of Hitachi's SK-3300 HDTV camera series, the new SK-31B is ideal for organizations seeking cost reduction through deployment of robotics in both studio and field applications. The compact, lightweight SK-31B can be incorporated within indoor/outdoor cranes and tracking systems, mobile vehicles, and helicopters to capture live, high-definition action through a cost-reducing robotic system. Hitachi takes high-definition imaging one step further by offering both native 720p and 1080i outputs within the SK-31B, eliminating the need for video signal manipulation through costly third party converters to achieve the desired format. Furthermore, the SK-31B can optionally provide down converted 480i as analog or SDI video outputs in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. The SK-31B is a flexible yet high-quality, high-definition camera that is useful for organizations of all sizes, from broadcast television to corporate and government video productions. With the SK-31B, video producers of all types can gain entry into HDTV without sacrificing the quality that imaging professionals demand. The SK-31B offers a 2RU, half-rack width CCU (camera control unit) model (CU-3100) and a digital optical fiber system for exceptional video transmission quality. The camera can also be operated in self-contained mode through local power provision and using its HD-SDI output located at the camera head. A new control panel provides direct connection to the camera head or CCU. All system components are fully compatible and can be used with the existing SK-3300 HDTV camera family.
