News Grass Valley Infinity HD Camera Continues to Support File-based HD Workflows Worldwide (27/4/2009) The worldwide transition to high-definition (HD) newsgathering continues to expand the overall market penetration of the Grass Valley(tm) Infinity(tm) Digital Media Camcorder (DMC). Major broadcasters and OB production companies in the U.S, Latin America, Belgium, and Switzerland are among the most recent customers to launch HD newscasts while making the commitment to all-digital, file-based workflows, and the Infinity DMC for the highest quality image acquisition. The Grass Valley Infinity series of products - which includes the innovative DMC and its companion Digital Media Recorder (DMR), supports this digital migration by enabling broadcasters and production professionals to capture, transport, and share content within a file-based workflow using IT industry standard media like REV PRO(tm) and CompactFlash. Once projects have been completed, the media can be shared, archived, and used to ingest final content to playout servers. "As more of our customers make the migration to file-based infrastructures, they are recognizing the value of the Infinity Digital Media Camcorder and its ability to help streamline the process of capturing news and getting it on air quickly," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Grass Valley. "Offering the choice of different resolutions, compression formats, and storage media, the Infinity was designed from the ground up as an IT-centric image acquisition system that is the most flexible camcorder on the market and can be tailored to a wide variety of applications." Latina America The new customers in Brazil to take delivery of the Infinity DMC for their recently launched HD newsgathering operations are: TV Morena, an affiliate of Brazil's TV GLOBO network and located in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, with eight Infinity DMC 1000 camcorders. TV Liberal, a Portuguese-language channel based in Belém, Pará, has upgraded their HD newsgathering operations with six Infinity DMC 1000 camcorders. TV Centro-América, in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, with eight DMC 1000 camcorders. In addition, the renowned Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), in São Paulo, has purchased two Grass Valley DMC 1000 units for its student-run broadcast operations on campus. Canal do Boi in Brazil with 10 Infinity systems. Television Educativa Nacional in Tegucigalpa, Honduras with six Infinity DMCs which complements their Aurora News system. AVCOM in Caracas Venezuela with eight Infinity DMCs with remote control panels intended for the first HD OB van in the country. Europe In Belgium, Alfacam, a prominent OB production company, has ordered 10 Infinity DMCs for use in its newly launched TV station. The purchase, representing the first major order of the Infinity in the country, is part of Alfacam's upgrade to HD production. The order includes several Grass Valley K2 media servers and numerous seats of Grass Valley Aurora(tm) HD editing operating a shared-storage network. Alfacam already has a large collection of Grass Valley products, including over one hundred LDK 8000 cameras, dozens of Grass Valley GeckoFlex(tm) signal conversion products, K2 servers, and Thomson ViBE MPEG-4 encoders. Switzerland In Switzerland, PZ Multi-Media, located in the city of Basel, have taken delivery of the first Infinity DMC sold in the country. The company will use the camcorder for its studio and ENG production activities. As part of a total facility upgrade, PZ Multi-Media has also installed a Grass Valley Kayak(tm) HD production switcher, a Concerto(tm) Series HD router under Jupiter(tm) control software, and a compact Triton(tm) router. The company has purchased the Infinity DMC in order to offer now more services at significantly less cost to its clients. The Infinity DMC, and its companion Digital Media Recorder, offer extended recording time on its removable REV PRO media and the pristine quality of 2/3-inch, native 1920x1080 HD Xensium(tm) CMOS image sensors. The latest version of the Infinity camcorder, the DMC 1000/20, includes support for the new XP and ER versions of the REV PRO media. Grass Valley REV PRO media add extra capacity (from 35 GB to 40 GB for XP and 65 GB for ER) to an already generous data storage format. REV PRO XP is tuned for high performance and ultra-fast ingest, while the REV PRO ER focuses on capacity.
