Marquis' Medway Enables Avid DNxHD Interoperability with Harris Corporation's NEXIO Server Platform (7/5/2009)

Marquis Broadcast, specialist in broadcast consultancy and workflow solutions, is announcing that its Medway media transfer and format conversion software is now integrated with NEXIOR server systems from Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, providing DNxHD interoperability between the Harris range of NEXIOR broadcasting tools and Avid Technology's nonlinear editing, news production and storage products. This new development makes full use of the Avid DNxHD codec to bring additional functionality to broadcasters by enabling them to build transparent and cost-effective workflows involving a greater range of 'best of breed' media applications.

Avid editors are able to browse and retrieve stored content from the NEXIOR environment. Medway functions by re-wrapping the media and its metadata, allowing it to move from the native NEXIOR file format into the Avid system at faster than real-time speed without the delay of file incompatibility that frequently occurs when media moves between different manufacturers' architectures. Finished edits are sent back to the NEXIOR server again via Medway. Content remains conveniently within the file-based environment and is delivered in the appropriate format ready for use by the recipient system. All procedures are carried out from Medway's easy-to-use interface which is accessible from within the Avid system.

The Medway integration with NEXIOR is now available through the Harris network of resellers and is scalable to suit a range of workflow configurations, including single editing systems with local storage, and multiple editing systems with shared attached storage.

Harris also has an existing OEM agreement with Marquis that enables Harris to integrate Marquis' Medway within the Harris Intelligent Media MoverT and InvenioR digital asset management systems.
