News Marquis and SGL Demonstrate Medway Bi-directional Avid-FCP File Transfer Facility Integrated with SGL's FlashNet Archive System (7/5/2009) Marquis Broadcast, specialist in broadcast workflow studies and software solutions, has announced that its Medway media transfer and format conversion software provided the media highway for a highly advanced workflow between SGL's FlashNet archive system and Apple Final Cut Pro (FCP) and Avid editing systems at NAB 2009. Showcased on the SGL booth, the workflow featured Medway's new bi-directional Avid to FCP file transfer function which is being debuted at the show. This powerful new Medway/FlashNet workflow solution will enable broadcasters to adopt a more flexible and collaborative approach to the way they utilise their resources by giving them the freedom to move edit jobs easily between FlashNet and a mix of Avid and Apple FCP editing systems as required. At the show, entire sequence timelines will be sent from an Avid editing system into FlashNet Archive using Medway to translate the EDL structure and move all the required media and metadata. Files will then be sent to an Apple FCP system with Medway carrying out file conversions during the move so that the edit can be continued as soon as the media arrives at its new destination. Files will be delivered smoothly and at full network speed without incurring bottlenecks that are frequently experienced when files move between different hardware and software architectures. The Medway/SGL solution enables finished projects to be sent to transmission in any format, including SD and HD, and moved back to the FlashNet environment for archiving or subsequent repurposing. The solution is compatible with all popular broadcasting and post-production applications and is fully scalable. "This tight integration delivers a fast, efficient digital workflow that removes the occurrence of bottlenecks, providing workflow improvements and greater flexibility. The relationship between SGL and Marquis further highlights SGL's open system architecture philosophy, which provides a reliable, scalable and fully accessible solution representing high ROI values and low cost of ownership," commented Mickey Charles, President, SGL Americas.
