News Grass Valley Ships K2 Dyno Replay System (24/8/2009) Grass Valley(tm) has begun shipping its highly anticipated K2 Dyno(tm) replay system to customers in the US and worldwide. The K2 Dyno is a powerful and cost-effective controller, designed to work seamlessly with the new Grass Valley K2 Summit(tm) HD production client. The combination addresses the need for high-definition replay control in sports and other live telecasts. Judging from customers in the US, Brazil, Venezuela, and Japan that are now in possession of the system, the K2 Dyno will be put to work immediately generating highlights and HD slow-motion replays for a wide range of high-profile sports-including soccer, golf, NFL football, NBA basketball, rugby, Major League Baseball, judo, volleyball, and horseracing. - In the U.S., professional NFL teams the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills, as well as remote production company Sweetwater Digital Productions, have all installed new K2 Dyno controllers to enhance their live productions. "K2 Dyno is a tremendously powerful tool and somehow remains very user friendly," said Michael Conner, Video and Scoreboard Operations Manager for the Arizona Cardinals Football Club. "Operator training is simple and straight-forward due to Dyno's intuitive design. This is going to be a dynamic addition to our game day presentation and fans are going to love our enhanced replay capabilities." - In Latin America, COMTELSAT S.A., located in Brazil, has taken delivery of a K2 Dyno system, as has The Green Channel, in Venezuela. - In Japan, broadcasters NBC Japan, Kansai Telecasting Corporation, and KB Mainichi Broadcasting Corporation have each installed the K2 Dyno as part of their production workflows. "Sports broadcasters the world over are discovering that the K2 Dyno replay system is not only the easiest replay system to operate, it's also the most cost-effective," said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Grass Valley. "Since its introduction at NAB last April, the industry has realized that the K2 Dyno replay system is the future of replay control for sports and other live events." To date, a total of 23 systems have been shipped. Among the new users is Olaf Bahr, a veteran video editor and slow-motion replay specialist with over 18 years of experience in live sports broadcasts. "I am so excited about this product" said Bahr. "Grass Valley has really listened to operators about what we need for live production and after using it extensively over the past month, I genuinely believe that the K2 Dyno is the next evolution in replay controllers." Designed with professional operators like Olaf in mind, the new K2 Dyno replay controller features a highly intuitive user interface that includes the Grass Valley T-bar, switcher-quality buttons, a touchscreen LCD, and high-speed Gigabit Ethernet networking connectivity. For larger operations, the controller can operate as a dedicated client within the IT-centric Grass Valley MediaFrame(tm) metadata architecture. This allows users to gain access to all of the information about a specific clip through the K2 Dyno for fast and easy recall. Users can import and export MXF, QuickTime, and GXF (SMPTE 360M) files directly using any USB device. The next-generation controller coupled with the new K2 Summit HD production client is designed to help sports producers and other professionals capture live events in crystal-clear HD resolutions and instantly play them out at variable speeds for critical analysis during fast-paced events. It is ideally suited for HD sports production trucks and shared storage production facilities.
