News P+S Technik announces availability of the WEISSCAM HS-2 high speed camera (3/9/2009) Test the P+S TECHNIK WEISSCAM HS-2 during IBC 2009 in the Production Village and at booth 11.E28 After more than 2 years of development the complete WEISSCAM HS-2 product family is ready for serial production and deployment and has already been shipped to the very first fifteen discerning clients all around the globe. Germany, Japan and the USA are the first countries the WEISSCAM HS-2 has been delivered to. The first clients are very impressed by the image quality, the easy handling and workflow of the stand-alone version of the camera: “You can shoot and see it right back in HD without having to render it first. We were shooting around a swimming pool and when the shot was done, we had the WEISSCAM HS-2 cued up and ready for playback by way of wireless control before the operator could even get off the dolly. I believe this is the best high speed camera out there. I own two and already wish to have more.” -- Denny Clairmont, CLAIRMONT CAMERA. The WEISSCAM HS-2 is the latest, uncompressed digital high-speed stand-alone camera and has a full format Super35 CMOS Sensor with a global shutter. The PL lens mount accepts 35mm lenses like Cooke S4s, but by using the Interchangeable Mount System (IMS) from P+S TECHNIK you can attach nearly every lenses on the camera (PL Mount, Nikon F Mount, Panavision Mount, etc.) or change the mount within a few seconds. The WEISSCAM HS-2 can shoot up to 1500fps in 2K, 2000fps in 1080p, and up to 4000fps in 720p and comes together with a completely new designed and custom-tailored software for the needs of highspeed photography. Coming with an easy workflow, two streams (RAW + HD) via HD SDI, 16:9 format and cinema-style images, it is designed to offer you the freedom of shooting either in HD or RAW mode or both: “The possibility of working either in HD or in RAW makes the camera very flexible and covers the different needs of our customers.” -- Thomas Greiser from ZGC, exclusive Distributor USA / South America. The HD stream offers YCbCr in 4:2:2. You can choose between linear standard curves like ITU-R 709 or a log curve for a higher contrast range within the HD SDI image. The RAW stream is a 12bit uncompressed WEISSCAM RAW file and offers the freedom to debayer in post production. Optional accessories are DM-2 DigiMag recording device, DBB DeBayerBox and HU-2 HandUnit. The DM-2 DigiMag recorder can be docked on-board the camera and record either 10-bit HD or 12-bit raw data. Depending on the format, the DM-2 DigiMag can record over 1,5 hours of HD material. The possibility to record other cameras signals like ARRIFLEX D20/21, Sony F35, GrassValley Viper, Phantom HD and Standard HDTV (like Sony F900) makes the DigiMag DM-2 a very flexible and multi functional tool. In conjunction with the external WEISSCAM DeBayerBox DBB, you are able to do a realtime debayering of the stored RAW data on the DigiMag DM-2. You can offer the post house immediately a standard HD YCbCr. The WEISSCAM HandUnit HU-2 fully controls the camera and image processing of the WEISSCAM HS-2. It can either be connected directly by cable or wirelessly. “The fact that the camera doesn’t need a computer on the set anymore quite simplifies working with it. The operator is able to check every adjustment concerning the camera and the recorder with the HU-2 HandUnit." -- Stefan Weiss, DoP and developer. To provide the information needed in order to shoot good highspeed footage, P+S TECHNIK / WEISSCAM conducted the first workshops concerning the entire workflow from recording through post production and displaying the material for DoPs and Stereographers. First German productions made with the stand-alone highspeed camera WEISSCAM HS-2 include sports program trailer (ZDF, Sat1 RAN) and commercials from companies like Granini, Freenet and Bärenmarke. High resolution stills and test footage available from P+S TECHNIK. The next generation of high-speed capturing can be tested in the Production Village or at booth 11.E28. The latest productions with the WEISSCAM HS-2 can be watched on IBC’s Big Screen on Friday, 5 pm.
