News TASCAM adds three models to its series of USB computer audio interfaces (29/9/2009) TASCAM has released three new models in its hugely popular series of USB computer audio interfaces for use with Windows® and Macintosh® computers. The US-100 is a new £95 (mrrp inc. vat) miniature USB 2.0 bus powered audio interface. The high quality (16bit/48kHz) interface features a microphone input and instrument level input for recording guitar or bass. Stereo line level phono inputs are switchable to RIAA phono level to enable recording from a vinyl turntable. The headphone output provides zero latency monitoring of input signals The unit is housed in a solid aluminium chassis to withstand the rigors of life on the road, and ships with Audacity® recording software. New MkII versions of the best selling US-122L and US-144 USB 2.0 bus powered audio/MIDI interfaces are smaller and thinner with lower profile control buttons, improved 24bit/96kHz audio performance, and high quality, low noise pre-amps. The US-122MKII offers two analogue audio channels, and the US-144MKII provides additional digital stereo I/O. Both models feature XLR microphone inputs with phantom power and jack line level inputs (two) and outputs – one input is switchable to high impedance instrument mode. MIDI in and MIDI out are also provided. The US-144MKII provides stereo digital audio I/Os input and output (input SPDIF, output selectable SPDIF or AES/EBU). Zero latency monitoring of input signals and separate level controls for output and headphones feature on both models; as do protective aluminium side panels. The inc. vat mrrp for the US-122MKII and US-144MKII is £139 and £162 respectively, and includes a copy of Cubase® LA4. The TASCAM PT7 is a pocket sized timing and pitch trainer for singers, string, woodwind and brass players; and fretless bass guitar. The PT7 enables singers and musicians to practice and improve intonation and timing, combining a digital recorder (with integrated microphone and speaker) and a high speed chromatic tuner and metronome. When singing or playing into the PT7, detected pitch is displayed on the large backlit LCD display. Users can choose between nine musical scales and six time signatures. The recording function enables a practice session to be reviewed, the intonation of the performance being displayed. The PT7 will even play back a performance with corrected pitch, according to the selected scale. Looped playback and variable speed audition are also included. Mrrp inc. vat is £115. The TASCAM VL-M3 self powered mini monitors are designed as a travelling recording and mixing aid. Production on the move usually means monitoring with headphones, but even the most accurate cans eliminate the true stereo soundstage by isolating the left and right signals from opposite ears. The VL-M3s solve this problem for the cost of a decent pair of headphones. The ultra compact monitors comprise bass reflex enclosures with 3-inch full range drivers and a 24 watt integrated amplifier in the left unit. The VL-M3 offers a wide frequency range from compact size and features a volume control. A stereo line input on phono connectors is provided as well as binding terminals for the loudspeaker connection between left and right cabinets. An AC adapter and line and loudspeaker cables are included. Inc. vat mrrp is £99. The TASCAM CD-200i is a new entry level professional CD player that features a front mounted integrated iPod® dock, providing control and playback of iPod content from the CD-200i’s control panel and audio and video outputs. The CD-200i also sports a front panel line level phono inputs for connection and playback of an external signal source via its outputs; convenient for connecting a laptop with music files, or the output from a DJ mixer, into a system. With MP3 and WAV file playback on CD media – with front panel folder navigation buttons for ease of selection – the CD-200i is the perfect tool to support the convergence of traditional and new media. The player also features + 12.5% pitch control and 10 second anti-shock memory buffer. Like its best selling CD-200 predecessor, the CD-200i exhibits TASCAM’s renowned build quality and reliability. Unbalanced analogue outputs, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, S-video and composite video outputs for iPod playback, and headphone out with level control are included. The player comes with 19 inch rackmount chassis and wireless remote control handset. Mrrp inc. vat is £449.
