XPRI gains more HD-friendly features as Sony ships 100th system (23/9/2004)

With news that more than 100 XPRI systems have now been shipped to European customers, Sony confirms fast growing interest in XPRI among broadcast and post production communities while unveiling several new 'HD-friendly' capabilities for the long-form non linear editor.

At IBC this year, Sony is inviting attendees to visit the XPRI Experience, a dedicated display area in the Post Production Hall. Away from the main Sony stand on Stand 7.929, Hall 7, visitors can see latest XPRI features capabilities being demonstrated that enhance the editor's appeal for long-form programme production.

High Definition is becoming an increasingly central aspect of production workflows, and many new features supported in XPRI Version 7 reflect growing industry momentum towards HD production. Latest additions include:

Support for 4 and 9 camera Multi-camera set-ups - including High Definition
Advanced new real-time [HD] Colour Correction tools plus a powerful real-time [HD] Chroma Key function
Enhanced Slow Motion Effects
Dual HDCAM digitise capability - simultaneous ingest from two connected HDCAM VTR or live sources
Tighter integration with Sony XDCAM family of Professional Disc production tools
Enhanced Storage Area Network (SAN) support - multiple XPRI workstations can share access to HD content via Fibre Channel to a central Storage Area Network (SAN) server subsystem for true collaborative working.

Growing sales success

With more than 100 systems now shipped in the past 6 months -- support for XPRI is gaining momentum from European broadcasters, post production facilities and rental operations.

'XPRI has hit a sweet spot with European programme makers thanks to its accessibility and attractive pricing as much as its HD capabilities and seamless compatibility with the Sony XDCAM Professional Disc system", comments Nick Smith, Solutions Manager, Sony Europe. 'From high quality drama and entertainment to documentaries and sport, there's no other long-form editor that lets production budgets work harder - and with latest enhancements unveiled at IBC this year, XPRI is set to further increase its lead over the competition.'
